1st Review: E.L.F. Cream Eyeliner

When you really think of the bottom dollar makeup brands, usually one of the top ones you think of is E.L.F. or Eyes Lips Face cosmetics. Almost everything they carry is one to three dollars. They carry a wide range of things with three different lines: Essentials, Studio and Mineral. Most Target stores carry a small collection, but you can also order online to get a full view of everything they carry.

I have had my eye on E.L.F. products for years. I would walk by them and like most people, I assumed since they were so cheap that they wouldn't be very good. A while ago I bought just a couple small things from their Essentials line and I wasn't too impressed, but then again, how much can you really expect from a makeup product that only cost a dollar?

After reading some reviews online and watching quite a few YouTube review videos, I decided I should try E.L.F. again but this time buy from the Studio line, which is the more expensive three dollar line. After hearing all the raving reviews I did a very small E.L.F. Studio line haul from my local Target. I spent around $12 and got four different products. I was fairly impressed with all of the things I bought but one product really stood out; the cream eyeliner. I bought it in black, though there is a wide variety of colors, more than I have ever seen from any other line of cream liners.

It costs three dollars and you get a good amount of product. The packaging is cute. It comes in a cube like plastic container. Along with a fair amount of product for the cost, you get a small angled brush to apply it. When compared to their full size angle brush, which is in their studio line, they were almost identical. So really you get a three dollar brush with just a shorter handle for free. Depending on your preference, this can be easier or harder to use than a full size angle brush. For me personally, I find it a bit more difficult since my hands are so big. I am not a small woman. Regular eyeliner brushes work just as well.

The liner is really smooth and creamy and I had no problems with it being goopy or clumping. It is fairly easy to apply. The only minor setback is that it is not mistake friendly or forgiving. You have to work quickly or it will dry and you will be stuck with the mistake unless you start over. If you are skilled with a brush it should be no problem. It is the kind of product that stays where you put it. It doesn't run and it is easy to do more complicated looks.

For the past week I have worn it everyday instead of my usual eyeliner and I must say I am quite impressed. It stays where I put it and it doesn't fade away or smudge, and mind you I live in southern Arizona where the heat is excruciating. I even did a cat eye for a couple days, and normally in the summer Arizona heat, the tail from the cat eye kind of melts away by the end of the day. I was happily surprised when I looked in the mirror when I got home at 9pm and both tails were still there as dark and bold as I put them on at 7am.

My only worry I haven't actually experienced. In quite a few of the reviews I saw complaints that in a couple of months the gel dried out and became like a hockey puck in the bottom of the container. Not everyone had complained of this occuring, but it was often enough to give me some doubts. I saw three or four people who had solutions for when this happened so if it does happen I have some options to try and reverse it, but hey! If I get a good amount and I use it every day and it does dry out it is still very much worth the three dollars I paid for it and the container would be perfect for some of my eye shadow creations

Overall I am very impressed with it and it will definitely become part of my personal collection. It is also for certain that I am going to repurchase it. The next chance I get I plan on buying one of every color. After using it I like the precision it gives me and I have so many ideas for looks in my head using this product. I highly recommend it and it is now part of my daily routine.

End Note: Sorry I do not have any pictures of looks I did using this project, I am having technical problems with the camera I have. It's an old camera and it is at the end of its days. The picture of the product I did not take I took it off of E.L.F.'s website so the credit goes there.
